Bag of Lemons
Hi everybody,
This is Jaclyn speaking. It’s been a while since we’ve had an update, Stephen has not improved, despite the treatments, and we’ve been struggling, but God has always been, and will always be, triumphant.
I’m going to tell you a story; a story about lemons. It starts close on 3000 years ago, in the year 798 B.C. to be precise, with a King called Jehoash.
Jehoash was beset by his enemies and he called to the prophet Elisha to see if God would help him out against these enemies.
Then he (Elisha) said, “Take the arrows,” and the king took them.
Elisha told him, “Strike the ground.” He stuck it three times
and stopped. The man of God was angry with him and said:
“You should have struck the ground five or six times; then you would
have defeated Aram and completely destroyed it. But now you will
defeat it only three times.” 2Ki13:14
For some reason this story has always stuck with us. About 10 or maybe 12 years ago we were completely broke, our bank-account had been in the red numbers for months, we never even broke into the black, and we had some nickels and dimes in our pocket; that was all we had to our name…
And one day as we sat praying God said “throw your money into the air”. It sounded kind of stupid, but we remembered the arrows, and we threw our money. I don’t know how long we sat there; throwing, giggling, gathering it all up only to throw it again, but we threw our money…
Strangely enough we came out of the red, into the black, and God has blessed us incredibly financially ever since.
Back to the lemons! A couple of weeks ago a friend from church came by and said he had a word from God… I was out at the time, but apparently he washed Stephen’s feet and left a bag of lemons - that was the word. A bag of lemons!
O.k. then! Lemons! Well, when life hands you a lemon, make lemonade, isn’t that how the saying goes? Stephen wanted pie, not lemonade – no biggie, I can make pie! But still, we wondered! Lemons!?
The next morning I had five minutes before I had to wake up the kids, so I decided to sit on the couch with Jesus, no agenda, I just wanted to spend a few minutes. And it came to me – Lemons! It’s the arrows all over again!
The decision was formed instantly: We’re going to make the best Lemon Meringue Pie the world has ever seen!
Didn’t have time that day though, since we had to go to the ALS Clinic in Vancouver for a check-up. We got our lemon alright; they determined that it is indeed ALS and got us started on the whole support process…
The next day we made our pie. And it was a pie! We drizzled caramel sauce over top, and colored sugar sprinkles, and the kids made little flags for Jesus which we stuck into it… then we still had lemons left over so we made a second pie, one to give away, and then we still had lemons so we made lemonade…
Then we invited the people that had given us the lemons and had a little celebration to the goodness of God! Stephen sent an e-mail to invite Jesus!
And that was our pie! Now the ball is in God’s court, or should I say: “The lemon is in God’s court?”
That was two weeks ago, and we haven’t seen any improvement yet, but we will still praise God, because He deserves it! Our life and our relationship has been one constant miracle, and I plan on posting it on this website, bit by bit as I have the time, so for whoever is interested in God-stories, tune in again.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I will fear no evil, for you are with me,
Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies!!!
Ps 23:4
And I bet there is Lemon Meringue Pie on that table!
God shall still have the Glory!
Yours in Jesus,
Jaclyn
Awesome. What a great entry! Jaclyn, it is inspiring to see how you are handling this situation. Stephen, equally impressive!

The "arrow pie" was delish! My prayers continue for both of you!

What a wonderful and touching story, Jaclyn!! It only confirms how we, His people, can fully trust Him in all circumstances. The words of Romans 5:3-5 is being demonstrated in your lives. We continue to keep both of you in our prayers.

Hi Stephen and family.
I appreciated the story Jaclyn. I just wanted to drop a note and let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers often. I hope that you find encouragement and strength in these times.

We've come a long ways since the days at Azu, and here we still are.
I can't tell you how much it means to us that you support us in prayer!
Thank you
Stephen
